The Heinz School is committed to making a graduate education affordable for talented students. No separate application is necessary. Carnegie Mellon University-AusAID Scholarships

Carnegie Mellon University-AusAID Scholarships are funded by the Australian Government to support a limited number of students from countries where Australia has a bilateral aid program, to study at the university's Heinz School in Adelaide, Australia. These scholarships are available to full time students.

Scholarship benefits include full tuition, return economy airfares, a contribution to living expenses, and basic medical insurance. Applicants must satisfy both AusAID's general eligibility criteria and the specific criteria established for their country of citizenship.

Applications for the January 2009 intake are now being accepted (the closing date for AusAid applications is the 30/06/08.) Carnegie Mellon University-AusAID Scholarships are only available to students who have already been offered a place at Carnegie Mellon University.

Endeavour Programme 2009 [Australian Scholarships] is open

Applications for the 2009 Endeavour Awards are now open. Applications will close on 31 July 2008.

The Endeavour Awards is the Australian Government’s internationally competitive, merit-based scholarship program providing opportunities for citizens of the Asia-Pacific and Middle East regions to undertake study, research and professional development in Australia. Awards are also available for Australians to do the same abroad. A smaller number of awards are available for participants from Europe and the Americas.

The Endeavour Awards provide individuals with a unique opportunity to take the next step in their academic or professional career.

Endeavour Awards for international applicants

Through the Endeavour Awards, the Australian Government provides opportunities for high achieving international students, researchers and professionals to undertake short or long term study, research and professional development in Australia in a broad range of disciplines.

The main objectives of the IPRS program are to:

attract top quality international postgraduate students to areas of research strength in Australian higher education providers; and
support Australia’s research effort.
The IPRS program enables international students to undertake a postgraduate research qualification in Australia and gain experience with leading Australian researchers.

Scholarships are open to international students of all countries (except New Zealand) and are available for a period of two years for a Masters by research degree or three years for a Doctorate by research degree. The scholarship covers tuition fees and health cover costs for scholarship holders, and health cover costs for their dependants.

Applications for a scholarship need to be made directly to a participating university. Universities are responsible for determining the selection process by which scholarships are allocated to applicants. Study Lilydale Scholarships, Swinburne University of Technology, Australia

From 2009 all international students who enrol in an on-campus, single degree at Lilydale will receive a Study Lilydale Scholarship.

The scholarship reduces the course fee by 10% each year for the duration of the degree. The fee reduction is off the published fee and does not apply to double degrees.

The Faculty of Higher Education, Lilydale offers programs in Business, Communications and Social Science. Students can combine majors and minors from all three discipline areas.

Eligibility criteria
1.1 The scholarship will apply to new commencing international students enrolling at The Faculty of Higher Education, Lilydale in 2009.

1.2 The scholarship is available to UG and PG coursework programs for single degrees. (Double degree programs and programs studied across multiple campuses are excluded).

1.3 Students must not be receiving any other form of Swinburne scholarship, or fee reduction.

1.4 There is no separate application required, as eligible recipients will automatically receive the scholarship at the time of enrolment.

1.5 Annual retention of the scholarship will be subject to satisfactory progress.

IWC Water Leader Master Scholarships

International WaterCentre (IWC) master on Integrated Water Resources Management aimed at improving the capabilities of future leaders in the field of water resources management with special emphasis on professionals working in developing countries. At the turn of the current and evolving practice IWC equips students with practical skills and interdisciplinary approaches to provide clean water solutions from the watershed to the bank. Water Leader Scholarships Program will offer full and partial scholarships for training of Australian citizens, permanent residents and international applicants for the semester 1 2009 master reception on Integrated Water Resources Management (MIWM) program.

The amount of scholarships

International scholarships will cover the full costs of training for three semesters MIWM programme, as well as the health of overseas students Cover for the duration of the program.

Scholarships for Australian citizens and residents include both full and partial scholarships for education-training program three semesters.

IWC Water Leader Scholarships do not include travel, accommodation allowances, scholarships, living in the field of work or course material costs. It will be the responsibility of successful candidates to meet those expenses.

Eligibility

Those interested in applying for an IWC Water Leaders Scholarship must meet the minimum eligibility requirements outlined below.

MIWM Program Entry Requirements (See also Applying to the Masters Program):
A four year undergraduate degree in a related field of study from an internationally-recognised institution. Applicants must have completed a university level qualification which is at least equivalent in standard to an Australian four year degree. If you are unsure whether your previous university qualification(s) is equivalent in standard to an Australian four year degree, you should seek advice from the Australian Education Centre in your home country or region, or contact UQ International Education Directorate.
Demonstrated English language proficiency (see www.uq.edu.au/international/language-requirements);
A minimum of two years practical experience in a related field is preferred but not required.

Citizenship and Visa Status

Australian citizens, Australian permanent residents and international applicants are eligible and encouraged to apply. Successful international applicants must meet visa requirements of the Australian Department of Immigration and Citizenship.

The selection criteria and process

Candidates will be evaluated by the University of Queensland in order to ensure their compliance with the minimum requirements for entry into MIWM program. Students will also be judged on Water Leaders Scholarship Selection at the International WaterCentre. Selection Panel will adhere to ICC policy of non-discrimination in this process. Decisions on the selection of candidates are final and confidential. ICC will not enter into correspondence regarding the results of the selection process.

The Endeavour International Postgraduate Research Scholarship provides:

Australian Development Scholarships (ADS) are funded by the Government of Australia for postgraduate study at Australian universities. The main goal of ADS is to promote Indonesia's human resource capacity to contribute to:
Sustainable Growth and Economic Management;
Democracy, Justice and Good Governance;
Investing in People; and
Safety and Peace.

Scholarships have played a significant role in Australia's development cooperation program in Indonesia, with around 11,000 scholarships provided over more than 50 years. ADS continues to be a major component of the program with up to 270 scholarships offered in 2008/2009.
The off-shore component of the ADS Program is managed by IDP through an IDP established ADS Project Office in Jakarta to ensure efficient end effective administration of the ADS scheme in Indonesia.



Each year, the Australian Government sponsors people from a number of developing countries to study in Australia through Australian Development Scholarships (ADS). The Australian Development Scholarship program in Indonesia aims to promote private and public sector human resource development in areas of agreed development priority.

This is achieved by providing post-graduate scholarships for Indonesians to study in Australia and by working in close cooperation with the Indonesian Government to deliver a program which is flexible to Indonesia's human resource development needs


Consistent with the principles of AusAID's education and training policy (August 1996), the ADS program will be implemented to ensure : quality (of project personnel, fellows and procedures); transparency (of selection); equity and merit (in the awarding of fellowships); access (of beneficiaries to scholarship documentation and information); and consistency (in award administration).

The Main Objectives of ADS Program are:
To assist Indonesian public and private institutions meet identified institutional objectives and training needs through the provision of postgraduate education to selected staff;
To assist individuals to increase their capacity to contribute to Indonesian institutions and professions by the provision of postgraduate study opportunities in Australia;
To assist alumni of the ADS scheme to maintain and update their academic and professional skills;
To promote Indonesia and Australia's equity in development policies;
To deliver training that complements the human resource development goals outlined in AusAID's Indonesian country strategy paper; and
To select high quality candidates with the ability to succeed at tertiary study in Australia, with minimal extensions and contribute to Indonesia's development.

Number of Awards and Length

The number of ADS awards each year will depend on Australian government budget appropriations. In the 2008/2009 ADS cycle, 300 ADS scholarships are available for commencement in 2009/2010. The scholarships are allocated as follows:
Up to 50% of Masters awards will be offered in the Targeted Sector Category;
2/3 of all awards will be offered in the ‘Public Sector’ category;
1/3 of all awards will be offered in the ‘Open’ category;
An equal number of awards will be offered to men and women;
At least 30 percent of all scholarships will be awarded in line with geographic focus of the Country Program Strategy, with the percentage to be reviewed annually through the Program Coordinating Committee (PCC). The geographic focus will include East Nusa Tenggara, West Nusa Tenggara, Papua, West Papua, and Aceh;
90 percent of awards at Masters level and 10 percent at Doctorate level (NB doctoral level study is only open to staff of universities, higher education institutions, research institute, key policy makers and targeted candidates in other organizations associated with AusAID activities.
Length of Study and Course Options

Scholarships will be available for full-time study of an Australian post-graduate qualification for the minimum period required to complete the award through the relevant Australian university, selected from AusAID contracted universities (normally a maximum of 2 years for Masters and 4 years for Doctorate). At the discretion of the Australian university, a percentage of a scholar’s Masters or Doctoral course may be undertaken in Indonesia through an arrangement put in place and managed by the Australian university. Scholars enrolled in research degrees can be funded to undertake fieldwork in Indonesia. Fieldwork proposals must be included in the original placement offer.

Awardee Entitlement
Tuition Fees: Payment of full academic fees and other fees that are compulsory for all international students.
Introductory Academic Program: A 4-6 week IAP prior to the commencement of your postgraduate program.
Travel: A single economy class airfare to Australia via the most direct route is included and a single economy class airfare to Indonesia via the most direct route.
Establishment Allowance: A payment of $AUD5000 is made as a contribution towards initial expenses such as rental bond, text books, study materials, additional medical insurance etc.
Contribution to Living Expenses: A fortnightly CLE is paid. The yearly tax free rate of $23 008 is applicable in 2008 (from 1 July)
Overseas Student Health Cover: OSHC will be provided for the awardee to cover basic medical costs. At their own expense, awardees may purchase additional medical insurance to cover ancillary services such as dentist, orthodontist and optometrist. Awardees taking families need to pay for an upgrade of their OSHC to include family members.
School fees for children: Fees are covered by the State Government in each state of Australia.

ADS Category

Australian Development Scholarships (ADS) provide opportunities for Indonesians to study in Australia at POSTGRADUATE level. Two hundred and seventy scholarships are expected to be awarded in 2008 for commencement in 2008/2009. Candidates must undertake study in one of the four areas of development priority. In Indonesia, the Australian Development Scholarship program offered in three categories: "Public" sector, "Open" sector and "Targeted" category.

Public sector applicants are employees from Government departments, state universities and state-owned enterprises - including non-PNS employees. These applications must be approved by the training or foreign cooperation bureaus (BKLN) within their local or central agencies before being submitted.

Open sector applicants are individuals from private institutions (including private educational institutions) who may independently apply for a scholarship in this category. There may be some specific selection and eligibility criteria. No prior government approval is required for those applying in the Open category.

Public servants cannot apply in the Open category. Scholarships are for full-time study for a Masters or Doctorate degree from Australian tertiary institutions. The scholarship provides up to nine months full-time language and academic preparation in Indonesia. Students must achieve satisfactory results in this training to be able to continue their scholarships.Applications from women and candidates in provinces within the geographic focus of AusAID’s Country Strategy are encouraged.

Targeted category applicants are employed by agencies associated with AusAID projects or AusAID related activities, including government organizations, state owned enterprises, non-government organizations (NGOs), civil society organizations (CSOs) and key state and private higher education institutions which service the training needs of these organizations. Suitable applicants will be identified through the assistance of a Human Resource Development (HRD) Consultant working with these target agencies . Their nomination must be facilitated through the Australian Team Leader (ATL) or the relevant representative of an AusAID activity. Up to 50% of all awards will be assigned to this category.

Application Requirements

Prior to applying for ADS, applicants must meet all eligibility criteria listed in the application form. (click the eligibility link to see the criteria)
After meeting all the eligibility criteria, applicants must complete the application form, answering all relevant questions and submit it in person, by post or by courier service to the ADS Office. Applications should be submitted as early as possible. If submitting by post or by courier your application must be received by date stamp no later than the closing date indicated in the application form. If your application is received after the closing date it will not be considered.

Following are points to be considered when submitting your application form:
Submit / send 3 (three) copies of the completed ADS application forms together with the required documents to the ADS office directly in person or via post or courier service;
Each copy of the application form should have attached certified* copies of the relevant documents listed below;
Applications with incomplete documentation will NOT be considered for a scholarship;
ADS will send a notification letter to all applicants after the selection process.

*Certified: a statement that the document is a true copy (legalisir cap asli), signed and dated by a magistrate or equivalent.


All applicants must attach copies of a certified transcript of academic record and copies of their certificate/degree. Copies of original documents are to be certified by your university or notaris, or an IDP Office. If you are applying for a Masters level course in business administration please attach your Graduate Management Aptitude Test (GMAT) score result, if available.

Eligibility

In General, Candidates must :
Be an Indonesian citizen and not have permanent residence in Australia or New Zealand;
Not be married or engaged to a person who is eligible to hold Australian or New Zealand citizenship or permanent residence;
Satisfy Australian Government requirements for international student entry to Australia (health, character etc);
Not hold a scholarship that would give similar benefits;
Not have held an Australian Government Scholarship in the 12 months preceding the application;
Be applying to commence a new course of study and not be seeking support through ADS for a course already commenced in Australia;
Be able to take up the scholarship in the year for which it is offered; and
Satisfy the admission requirements of the Australian tertiary institution in which the course is to be undertaken.


Specifically, Candidates must :
Be applying for courses that fall within the four areas of development priority (see page below);
Have a Grade Point Average (GPA) of at least 2.9 (on a scale of maximum 4.0) and an English language proficiency of at least 5.0 in IELTS (or 500 in Institutional TOEFL or 170 in International TOEFL). The IELTS or TOEFL result must be current (a test result obtained in 2007 or 2008 will be considered current);
Already hold an undergraduate degree, if applying for a Masters;
Already have a Masters, if applying for a Doctorate;
Apply for a degree at a level higher than their current highest qualification;
If applying for a Doctorate, applicants must be staff of universities, higher education institutions, research institutes, key policy makers and targeted candidates in other agencies associated with AusAID activities. It is highly desirable for Doctorate applicants to have a letter of support from an Australian university for their proposed field of study;
Answer all relevant questions on the application form;
Be willing and available to take full-time (Monday - Friday, 08.00 - 16.00)English for Academic Purposes(EAP) training in Indonesia prior to studying in Australia, if offered a scholarship;
Be not older than 42 years old at time of application.

As part of this assignment, you will work alongside and receive mentorship from Jason Edwards, gaining valuable hands-on experience in everything from shot set up, technique and composition through to insights into his many years of diverse experience as an award winning photographer.

To help you take professional photos, the scholarship recipient will receive an Olympus E3 digital camera with 14-54mm f2.8-3.5 Standard Wide Zoom Lens plus a new Lenovo Ideapad Y-510 laptop computer to store your photos and keep your journal.

The scholarship recipient's top photos will be published on the National Geographic Channel's website where they will be viewed by thousands of travellers world wide and offer you a once-in-a-lifetime chance to get your foot in the door of one of the most revered exploration organisations in the world!

The Scholarship also includes airfares from your nearest international airport, accommodation, travel insurance, visa costs and per diems.

What you'll be doing


* We'll fly you in from your country of residence to Longreach, Australia. You'll need to be available to be in Australia between August 19-26, 2008. The festival dates are August 22,23 & 24, 2008.

* In Hughenden, you will work alongside Jason Edwards photographing the camel race, festival events and local landscape. Your assignment will involve observing and assisting Jason as well as undertaking your own photographic work. This involves VERY early mornings, and long days chasing the perfect shot, this is not a pool-side holiday!

* You will keep a daily diary about your time on the trip and upload this to a World Nomads travel journal, including pictures you've taken.

* On your return you will submit your top photographs to National Geographic Channel for publication on www.natgeotv.com.au.

* Most of all, you'll be experiencing what it's like to be a photographer-on-asssignment with National Geographic!

* To be eligible you have to be currently enrolled and actively studying at a recognised educational tertiary institution and speak and write fluent English.

* Minimum age 18.

* You must have a valid drivers licence and be comfortable driving a manual vehicle. This is the Outback!

Australia - Murdoch University PhD Scholarships for Research in Indonesia

Expressions of interest are sought for two PhD scholarship positions to carry out field research in Indonesia on community, environment and local governance issues.

The successful candidates will work with a team of experienced researchers - Dr Greg Acciaioli (UWA), A/Prof Anton Lucas and Dr Jim Schiller (Flinders), Dr John McCarthy (ANU), and A/Prof Carol Warren (Murdoch), as well as collaborating researchers in the Netherlands and Indonesia - on an Australian Research Council Discovery Project entitled ‘Social Capital, Natural Resources and Local Governance in Indonesia’. The project will focus on case studies of local decision-making on environmental issues in the context of conservation and development programs in different regions of Indonesia. It aims to improve understanding of contemporary community dynamics in a range of cultural and ecological settings, as well as the practical implications of local participation and capacity building interventions for achieving equity and sustainability outcomes.

The two candidates will be based at Flinders University in Adelaide and Murdoch University in Perth respectively, with location and supervision determined by the focus and site of each student’s component of the project. It is anticipated that one student will work in a coastal community where marine conservation issues are the focus of research, while the second student will focus on a primarily agrarian research site in which World Bank /AusAID/ NGO local capacity building, conservation and development projects are being conducted.

Essential criteria include:
a first-class Honours or Masters degree with a thesis component in a relevant social science field
advanced fluency in Indonesian language
field research or other equivalent community/overseas experience
ability to work independently and as part of a team

A shortlist will be determined by the research team in September, at which point applicants will be requested to submit full formal
applications and documentation to either Flinders or Murdoch University. The successful candidates are expected to take up their appointments no later than February 2009.

The University of Sydney International Visiting Research Fellowships are offered to researchers of high standing at any stage in their career to share and disseminate new and original ideas and/or techniques, initiate and undertake collaborative research and facilitate interaction and training of University staff and students. Visiting fellows are expected to make a substantial contribution to the academic life of the University. Applicants and their University of Sydney host researcher must have an outstanding track record relative to opportunity. Successful applicants are expected to be based full-time at the University for the duration of the Fellowship. Applications from returning expatriate Australians are encouraged.

Assessment Criteria
Excellence will be the primary criterion. The selection committee will consider the track records relative to opportunity of the applicant and of the host researcher, the proposed research, and the benefits to the University arising from the collaboration, with each criterion equally ranked. Preference will be given to visiting researchers who do not already have a well-established research collaboration with the University of Sydney. If visiting researchers have an existing research collaboration with the University, then the application must detail how the proposed research is new and different from the existing collaboration.
