Seoul National University Scholarship programs

SNU offers a variety of scholarship programs for foreign students. More than 50% of international students are partially or entirely exempt from tuition fees. SNU scholarship programs are mostly merit-based, but the University applies more generous criteria for international student. Internal scholarships are awarded each semester, and external scholarships are generally provided until graduation if all requirements are continually satisfied.
The scholarship programs available to international students currently attending SNU are given below.

Overseas Koreans Foundation Scholarship

The Overseas Koreans Foundation sponsors foreign students to continue their studies at SNU Graduate School. Priority is given to students already in graduate schools in Korea who have foreign citizenship and have not received any scholarships from any other organization. Applicants must have received at least a 3.0 GPA in the preceding semester. This scholarship is merit-based, but a student’s financial status is also taken into consideration. The application period is March to April each year, and the recipient is given 2,000,000 won per semester.

Korea Scholarship Foundation for Future Leaders (KOSFFL) Scholarship

The Korea Scholarship Foundation for Future Leaders (KOSFFL) provides scholarships for foreign graduate students from throughout Asia, Latin America and Africa who are currently enrolled in a master’s program in Korea. Students who have studied in a master’s program for more than two semesters, and are hoping to continue their studies in Korea are eligible to apply for this scholarship. Priority is given to students who have obtained an overall GPA of 3.3 or above, and are not receiving any other scholarships. Applicants should speak fluent Korean, which will be verified at the interview.

About 5 recipients are selected, and the full tuition fee is waived, along with a 1,000,000 won stipend given per semester. The scholarship is awarded up to 4 semesters or until the recipient successfully obtains their master’s degree.

ASEM-DUO Fellowship Program
Graduates in ASEM member countries in Europe are eligible to apply for an exchange fellowship to study at SNU. Funded by ASEM (The Asia Europe Meeting) members, this is a fellowship-granting program for university students, teachers and professors in ASEM member countries who wish to go to Asia or Europe (i.e. Asians to Europe, Europeans to Asia) for further study, research or joint lectures. Only a pair of students or teachers between the two educational institutions, one in Asia and the other in Europe, is exchanged. Financial support is given in terms of units with one unit comprising six months for graduates.

Hansae Scholarship

Hansae Corporation sponsors students from Vietnam, Indonesia, Cambodia, Malaysia and Thailand. Applicants are expected to show sufficient language proficiency in Korean.

ATW (Asia in Today′s World) Scholarship

Kyushu University in Japan supports SNU students to take free summer semester lectures through the Asia in Today's World (ATW) Program. Applicants should have a GPA of 3.2 or higher, and a TOEFL PBT score of 550 or above. The Office of International Affairs at SNU is in charge of the selection procedure. Recipients are able to take Asian Studies courses free of charge, and the credit obtained may be acknowledged by SNU. For information about transferring credits, please contact the administration office of your department. The application period is at the end of March each year, and the scholarship amount is 120,000 Yen.
